Parent Handbook 2025–2026

Everything you need, in one place

We want to welcome you to our NewStart Preschool family. We see education as a team effort and are honored you’ve chosen us. This handbook is a quick reference to our policies — please reach out anytime with questions.

Our beliefs

“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” — Mark 10:14 (NIV)

Enrollment Procedures
Children are enrolled on a first come, first serve basis. Siblings of children previously enrolled may enroll one week prior to open enrollment. A child is not enrolled until the enrollment forms are returned with the supply fee. Parents must provide a signed notice of health from the child’s pediatrician within 12 months of enrollment.
Days of Operation & School Hours
School Hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–2:55 PM. Our school year runs September through May, following the FISD calendar. Drop-off: 9:00–9:30 AM (please arrive before 10:00 AM). Pick-up: 2:30–2:55 PM.
Release of Children
Children will only be released to parents or other adults authorized by parents. We must have a copy of the driver’s license on file for all authorized adults.
Tuition Payment
Tuition is due the first week of the month, via the Brightwheel app, cash, check, or money order. A late fee of $25.00 applies to tuition not collected by the first week of each month.
Inclement Weather
We follow the FISD school calendar for inclement weather closings and delays. For a 2-hour delay, we start at 10:00 AM.
Dress Code
Please dress your child in comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. For safety, children must wear closed-toe shoes with a strap behind the ankle, like tennis shoes.
School Supplies
Backpack, lunch box, water bottle, an all-in-one nap mat (with pillow and blanket attached), and a change of clothes in a labeled Ziploc bag.
Food Service Practices
NewStart Preschool does not prepare food. Children bring a packed morning snack and lunch from home, plus a spill-proof water cup we refill throughout the day.
Potty Training
We partner with parents to have children potty trained by their 3rd birthday. Children must be potty trained before entering our 3’s and Pre-K classes.
Immunizations
All children must meet the immunization requirements of the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) or provide a state-notarized exemption affidavit. Records must be kept current.
Discipline & Guidance
Our approach is positive, teaching self-control through redirection, praise, and encouragement. Corporal punishment or any harsh treatment is strictly prohibited, in line with DFPS minimum standards.
Parent Communication
We use the Brightwheel app for daily updates. Monthly emails and a closed Facebook page share themes and upcoming events. Conferences can be scheduled anytime with your child’s teacher and the director.

Health & wellness

Should my child go to school today?

A quick guide to help you decide.

Fever (100.0°F or higher)
Stay home. Your child must be fever-free for a full 24 hours without fever-reducing medication before returning.
Mild cough / runny nose
May attend school if there is no fever and they feel well enough to participate.
Bad cough / cold symptoms
Stay home. This could be a severe cold, flu, or something more serious. Return when the cough improves and they feel better.
Diarrhea / vomiting
Stay home. Symptom-free for 24 hours after the last episode (without medicine) and able to keep down two solid meals.
Sore throat
A minor sore throat is okay, but a severe one could be strep. Keep them home and contact a doctor; return 24 hours after starting antibiotics if it is strep.
Pink eye (conjunctivitis)
Stay home. This is highly contagious. Your child needs a doctor’s permission to return.
Rash
See a doctor. A rash could be a sign of a contagious disease. Your child can return once cleared by a doctor.
